Running against incumbent GOP Tom Cotton.
Hallie Shoffner is waging a David vs Goliath battle against entrenched GOP, Tom
Cotton. Shoffner is currently polling about 3.5% points ahead of Cotton, despite
Cotton receiving massive contributions from Republican PACs, while Shoffner has
had to rely mostly on local support, without significant party support.
Tom Cotton does not even live in Arkansas, but instead, resides in Virginia. He
claimed to have been awarded a Bronze Star for his service as an Army Ranger, in
Iraq and Afghanistan, but it it was reported that he did not serve with the 75th
Ranger Regiment, but instead was with the 101st Airborne. Snopes found this
report to be true. He did graduate from Ranger School, but graduating from the
Ranger school, and "receiving a Bronze Star for serving as a Ranger in combat"
are two very different things. It would be like claiming to have graduated at
the top of your class from Wharton School of Business; when in reality you
graduated 364th out of a class of 366.
