Chris Pappas has won the primary. He will face former, one term, US Senator John E. Sununu in the general election.

Because John E. Sununu has already had a term as US Senator from New Hampshire, he has significant voter recognition working for him; but he lost that seat to a Democrat 18 years ago. Democrat Jeanne Shaheen defeated John E. Sununu in 2008, so her retirement brings Sununu back and he is politically savvy and well funded. This is a real threat to this Democratic seat.

John Sununu is the son of John H. Sununu, Governor of New Hampshire from 1983 to 1989; and his brother Chris Sununu was also the Governor of New Hampshire from 2017 to 2025. In New Hampshire Republican politics, the Sununu family are not just politicians, they are a dynasty. During John E. Sununu's last term as a US Senator, he voted to give huge tax breaks to big pharma companies, then when he was voted out of office, he went to work for them and, according to Pappas, made $35 million from them. Sununu is endorsed by Donald Trump.

New Hampshire voters will have to consider whether the Trump economy is survivable if Republicans retain control of the US Senate.
